First Ever MoU with India Signed by the 100 Year Old 'The University of Hong Kong' and The Government of Gujarat

First ever memorandum of understanding with India was signed by the 100 year old ‘The University of Hong Kong’ (HKU) and the Government of Gujarat. The MoU was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Delegation visit to Hong Kong, led by Mr. Sanjay Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary, Government of Gujarat, Agriculture and Cooperation Department. HKU has the reputation of collaborating with internationally renowned institutions, including The London Business School, Kellogg’s University and similar renowned educational institutions.
 
HKU will work in collaboration with the Mahatma Gandhi National Institute of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to implement various courses in Gujarat for the students. It shall also work closely with the Mahatma Gandhi Labour Institute, Ahmedabad for developing innovation and creativity in work and labour practices. International certification and equivalence shall be provided for the courses being conducted in the Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in Gujarat.
 
Hong Kong University School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKUSPACE), an arm of HKU will provide its support and experience to enhance learning opportunities for personal, professional and career advancement for vocational education students in Gujarat and the rest of India. HKUSPACE will associate with The Government of Gujarat to provide professional vocational and entrepreneurial education to the masses.
 
The Government of Gujarat is keen to have the University of Hong Kong to support its skill development programme where technical education along with first-hand experience can be provided to enhance workforce in Gujarat in various fields. HKU will work with the Government of Gujarat for Skill Development through technical education, hands-on training and other such related initiatives.
 
Speaking at The University of Hong Kong, the delegation leader, Mr. Sanjay Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary, Government of Gujarat, Agriculture and Cooperation Department said, “The collaboration with HKU in the field of skill development has been initiated by the Government of Gujarat to facilitate development of vocational learning and higher education institutions that would lead to excellence in education and research in this field. This aims to contribute to the national initiatives announced by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi like Skill India and Atal Innovation Mission. The collaboration with HKU will lead to strengthening of skill development and education sectors in India.”
 
HKU representatives shall also visit Vibrant Gujarat 2017 summit in January next year to take this process of cooperation further.
